Satellite versus NBN for Internet roll-out
NewSat’s CEO, Adrian Ballintine, appeared on GWN 7 News on Thursday 12 May 2011, as the national government’s $35 billion National Broadband Network was discussed.
Adrian discussed how Canberra should follow the rest of the world and use satellite technology, as it is more reliable than cable in disaster situations and better able to service underprivileged or underserviced areas.
The city of Geraldton-Greenough, North of Perth, voiced concern over the lack of education surrounding the NBN and its economic benefits, which has resulted in local businesses not signing up. Another concern is that some regional areas may not be able to access the NBN.
