As the sixth largest country in the world, with some of the most remote terrain, communication solutions are of great importance to the Australian Government. Satellite communications enable Australians, both urban and rural, access to government policies and services in health, education, social services and emergency services. As the largest independent satellite provider in Australia, NewSat is proud to have a role providing every Australian with fair and equal access to government services. Some of NewSat’s government customers include the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) and the NSW fire brigade. As a signatory to the Australian Government Telecommunications Agreement (AGTA), NewSat is able to participate in new programs and projects to help bridge the digital divide.

There was a great need for communications in the Kimberley region and in October 2007, the Western Australian and Federal Government awarded NewSat the contract to provide broadband services into the remote Kimberley Region of Western Australia. This assignment rolled out satellite broadband to 16 of the most remote towns in Australia, some not even accessible by road for most of the year.
